An industrial origin
The history of the Pavillons de Bercy and the Musée des Arts Forains is closely linked to that of Jean Paul Favand, director of the Patrimoine du spectacle et des Arts Forains and creator of the Musée des arts forains. After a spell in Gentilly, then in the 15th arrondissement, the Musée des Arts Forains moved to the Bercy district in 1996. Now known as the Pavillons de Bercy, the museum revives the festivities of the past, combining festive tradition with a living memory of heritage, spectacle and entertainment. It welcomes over 300,000 guests a year for events ranging from gala dinners to incentive days.
Three places to dream
Les Pavillons de Bercy offer a number of independently-operated rental spaces.
The Théâtre du Merveilleux, housed in one of the three pavilions, is a palace of dreams and illusion. Old-fashioned fairground attractions mingle with virtual gaming to offer an unusual and unforgettable experience.
The Musée des Arts Forains, meanwhile, is a living museum where visitors become the actors of their own dreams. A true celebration of yesteryear, with wooden horses, swings and games of massacre, for an evening dedicated to gaiety and childhood. Attractions, rides and games from the 1900s are at your disposal.
The Salons Vénitiens, also installed in the Pavillons de Bercy, are a reconstruction of an 18th-century Italian palace. These lounges, housed in former wine cellars, plunge guests into a fellinian world of merry-go-rounds, fairground attractions and automaton shows. Finally, the Magic Mirror takes you back to the Roaring Twenties! In the 1920s, Europe was gripped by a fever for games, music and parties, giving rise to ephemeral, mobile dance halls that have now disappeared: the Magic Mirrors. It was with this in mind that Jean Paul Favand imagined this unique and atypical place.
