A private mansion turned Banque de France
Located just a stone’s throw from Parc Monceau, on Place du Général-Catroux in Paris’s 17th arrondissement,Hôtel Gaillard boasts a singular, grandiose façade, in the midst of a district marked by Haussmannian architecture and cut stone.
The building, erected at the end of the 19th century in the heart of what was then known as “la plaine Monceau”, fascinates with its architectural audacity. Its slender roofs and delicate turrets emerging from brick walls captivate Parisians. Inside, richly decorated reception rooms showcase the exceptional collection of medieval and Renaissance art belonging to its owner, banker Emile Gaillard.
In 1919, this sumptuous neo-Renaissance château became a branch of the Banque de France, and today houses the collections of the Musée Citeco, the first museum dedicated to the economy and its mechanisms.
