Hôtel de la Marine, the jewel of the Golden Triangle
A superb architectural ensemble built in the 18th century along the Place de la Concorde, theHôtel de la Marine housed the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne until the French Revolution… before becoming the headquarters of the French Ministry of the Navy for 200 years.
After the Ministry’s departure in 2015, theHôtel de la Marine was entrusted to the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. Responsible for showcasing this exceptional heritage, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux has carried out a major restoration of the entire monument between 2017 and 2021.
The architecture of theHôtel de la Marine, as well as its painted decorations, furniture and objets d’art from the 18th and 19th centuries, show the public the close links between decorative art, the art of entertaining, craftsmanship, French excellence and the expression of power.
Since 2017, restoration campaigns have uncovered some real marvels, including the rediscovery of the original decor of the intendant’s apartments as they were at the end of the 18th century.
