Showcasing Asian art
Émile Guimet had the museum built in 1889. It became part of the Direction des Musées de France in 1927. From 1945 onwards, a vast reorganization of French national collections began. Since then, Asian art collections have been displayed in vast, luminous 5,500m² spaces, a veritable showcase of culture and elegance forprivate events.
The Buddhist Pantheon, an annex of the Musée Guimet, is housed in a former 19th-century mansion. It houses part of the exceptional collection Emile Guimet brought back from Japan. A timeless showcase where East meets West, the Pantheon opens its large wood-panelled lounge and adjoining space to prestigious receptions. The lounges also open onto a magnificent Japanese garden.
Today, the Musée Guimet boasts one of the world’s largest collections of Asian art, from the Buddhas of Afghanistan to the Zen monks of Japan, from Indian fabrics to samurai armor, from the treasures of Angkor to the refined arts of China.
